Pipa: the choice is yours
The locals in Pipa are native fishermen and their families along with surfers, artists and people from the rest of Brazil and South America as well as Europeans who live here. They have at least one thing in common: they are here to enjoy life!
Most visitors to Pipa don't stay long without taking the occasional promenade down the cobbled main street in the evening. The afternoon and evening is shopping time, and when the sun sets, shops open and bustling artisan markets pop up.
Pipa also has its' own cute little shopping centre, leading up from the main street. Try the homemade ice cream, served in the shade of a huge mango tree. The shops offer tempting displays of jewellery, hammocks, beach and surf wear and souvenirs. And don't forget to stock up on the famous Havaiana flip-flop sandals, which cost only a fraction of what you pay for them in Europe.
At night, there's music and entertainment on the streets and in the bars. Half way down the long main road is the town square where there's usually something happening. People gather for capoeira shows, samba parties or to see a film or football match on a big screen.
Nightlife in Pipa is centred around the main street where restaurants, bars and cafés are lined up. Up and down from the main street there are alleyways with little hidden places for a quiet drink or meal. There are various shops, DVD rental and even a pet store, not to mention the Book Shop, where you may only rent the books or alternatively enjoy them inside the shop along with a cold beer, a couple of Siamese cats snuggling around in comfy sofas.
In the same way that people meet at the beaches during daytime, everyone gathers in the streets at night. Pipa is just small enough, so it doesn't take many days before you get to know people around town, and a stroll along the street in the evening can quickly turn into a big night out. If you're really up for it, you can party all night under the stars and watch the sunrise in Pipa's roofless nightclub.
In Pipa you'll often hear live music. And there's plenty of choice; from Brazilian samba, bossanova or forró to rock, reggae, pop or electronica – Pipa accommodates most tastes.
